Yenagoa—The Special Assistant to Governor Douye Diri on New Media, Mr. John Domkpee has congratulated his principal and the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on his victory at the governorship election held on Saturday.
Domkpee in a congratulatory message on Monday in Yenagoa described Diri’s re-election as a victory for the ordinary Bayelsan as well as for democracy.
He noted that the forces against the spirit of fair play and democracy tried their best to mar the election but for the gallantry of Bayelsans who fought to ensure the victory of Diri.
He, therefore, thanked Bayelsans for not only voting for the retention of Diri in office but also playing their part to ensure their votes were counted in the election.
“I have always believed that Governor Douye Diri will emerge victorious in the November 11 poll owing to his popularity amongst Bayelsans. And, now that he has officially been re-elected I am excited for his victory.
“Governor Diri’s victory is a victory for democracy as well as for all well-meaning Bayelsans who didn’t only vote for his re-election but ensured their votes counted despite the machinations of the opposition to mar the election by erupting violence in different parts of the state during and after the poll.”
Domkpee who has been vocal about his support for his principal however urged Diri to continue his good works in the state upon his re-election.
He added, “I know Governor Diri with his love for the people of Bayelsa will continue and complete the projects he has started as well as fulfill all the promises he made to the people during the campaigns.”
