Abuja—A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, Hon. Steve Ereboh has called on the national leadership of the party to give its candidate in the 2019 guber election in the state, Chief David Lyon the right of first refusal to contest for the party’s ticket in the upcoming primary election.
Ereboh who stated this in a live television programme on Thursday stressed that Lyon still enjoys massive goodwill from Bayelsans.
His words, “If we cast our minds back to 2019, somebody won the election landslide with over 200,000 votes. Now the Supreme Court had a filled day on the matter. What was it?
“The deputy governor had issues with his credentials. And if we ask the process questions, the deputy governor who had issues with his credentials is still a serving Senator in the national assembly and was given a second-term ticket by the APC to recontest and go back to the national assembly but he lost.
“Now the question now will be, what is wrong with featuring David Lyon? We should plead to the conscience of the party. He didn’t lose the election. And as such we should plead to the conscience of the party that David Lyon should be given the right of first refusal.”
The APC chieftain added that Lyon has the strength and still enjoys the goodwill of Bayelsans to win in 2023.
“And if you go down to Bayelsa today everybody up to children are happy that he’s still contesting the same election. So we plead to the conscience of the party,” he said.
