Yenagoa—A Niger Delta ex-agitator and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, Mr. Bobo Tonye has commended the members of the G-37 of the APC for their resolve to support Chief David Lyon to be the flagbearer of the party in the forthcoming Bayelsa State gubernatorial election.
The G-37—a committee of the APC that is made up of former state party chairmen and former non-members of the National Working Committee (NWC)—recently in a statement by its Secretary General, Hon. Nelson Alapa, resolved to amongst other things support Lyon.
Bobo at a media parley on Tuesday in Yenagoa said the committee’s decision to support Lyon is a clear indication that Lyon is the best among all the five aspirants vying for the party’s ticket for the Bayelsa guber election.
While he noted that the task ahead is enormous for Lyon in his bid to secure the party’s ticket and ultimately to be the governor of Bayelsa state, Tonye predicted victory for the APC aspirant who he described as his leader.
Bobo, a chairman of 3rd phase Ex-Agitators, urged delegates for the APC governorship primary to throw their weight behind Lyon at the party primary slated to hold this Friday.
He charged them to eschew money politics and shun any attempt at selling their votes for pecuniary reasons, adding that as representatives of the people and the conscience of the party, there is a need for delegates to vote wisely.
He further stressed that if given the mandate, the administration of David Lyon will meaningfully engage over 30% of youths in his cabinet as well as invest in capacity building and empowerment for the state to achieve accelerated development.
“Our fate lies in the hands of the delegates of the primaries and they should realize the importance of a better representative,” he said.
The ex-freedom fighter opined that Bayelsa State stands a chance to end bad governance, misappropriation of public funds, snail-speed development and the age-long mediocrity that, according to him, has characterized the oil-rich state.
“Lyon is a tested, popular leader with high integrity and the APC delegates will be doing the citizens of Bayelsa a huge favour if they elect him to fly the APC ticket in the November 11 governorship election.
“By giving Lyon the APC ticket, the citizens of Bayelsa will have the chance to reelect their dear son and leader whom they voted for in 2019,” he added.
