Yenagoa—A social commentator, Cletus Izonebi, has urged the people of Bayelsa West Senatorial District to give their total support to the senator representing the district, Chief Seriake Dickson in 2023.

In a statement sent to mangrovepen.ng, Izonebi admonished them not to be deterred by the myriad of negative publicity being allegedly sponsored against the senator.

According to him, “the people of Bayelsa West Senatorial District should not be deterred by the myriad of negative propaganda against Senator Seriake Dickson.

“As governor of Bayelsa State, he did not just facilitate infrastructural development in the senatorial district but also changed its economic fortune.

“From the establishment of the Isaac Boro College of Education, Sagbama, University of Africa, Toru-Orua, Bayelsa State Polytechnic, Aleibiri and the construction of the long-abandoned senatorial road, he has shown unparalleled love towards us.”

Izonebi, a native of Aleibiri community in Ekeremor Local Government Area, revealed that Dickson has empowered hundreds of youths, men and women in the senatorial district with cars, tricycles, sewing machines and facilitating capacity building programmes.

He said Bayelsa West cannot afford to lose Dickson’s people-oriented representation in the National Assembly because of a purported zoning arrangement.

“The issue of zoning is clearly against the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. You cannot disenfranchise someone, in this case, a performing and patriotic lawmaker, based on a zoning arrangement that has no documentary evidence,” he said.

He also called on Governor Douye Diri not to relent in supporting the senator for a second tenure “because he owes Dickson a moral obligation to support him given the fact that Dickson supported him against all odds to become governor.”
