Governor Douye Diri has been applauded for his immense efforts in ensuring power is restored to the state.
This follows the restoration of power to some parts of Yenagoa metropolis yesterday after over four months of blackout due to the vandalisation of electricity towers.
John Domkpee, the Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, who made the commendation in a statement on Wednesday thanked Diri for making “extra efforts” in ending the prolonged blackout in the state.
Domkpee however took a swipe at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for what he described as an alleged “institutional laxity” for not securing the power lines.
He added that if not for the dedication and extra effort of the Diri-led Bayelsa State government that reportedly footed the whole bill of the rehabilitation process, he said there would have been still no hope of power in the state.
The Governor’s aide also appreciated his principal for his achievements in infrastructural development and for initiating transformative capital projects like the Nembe-Brass road, Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie road, Sagbama-Ekeremor road, Glory Drive road and many others
He said the economic importance of the aforementioned infrastructural projects to the state is enormous, adding that the roads are a testament to Diri’s dedication and service to the people of Bayelsa.
He said: “Some of the major projects that showcase Governor Diri’s commitment to developing the state is the ongoing construction of the Nembe-Brass road and the Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie road.
“These roads will not only provide easy access to the rural areas, but also boost economic activities in the area.
“The completion of these projects will benefit the locals and also attract investors to the state, leading to further development and growth.
“The Sagbama-Ekeremor road and Glory Drive road are prime examples of Governor Diri’s developmental achievements in Bayelsa.
“These roads have not only made transportation easier for the people, but have also opened up neglected areas, connecting them to the rest of the state and improving their overall standard of living.
The Governor’s aide also lauded the Governor for achievements in other sectors like education, healthcare, and agriculture, stating that “his holistic approach to development is crucial for the overall progress of the state.
“The Governor has also done immeasurably well in other sectors like education. For example, under his leadership, Bayelsa has witnessed a significant increase in the number of trained teachers, improved healthcare facilities, and boost in agriculture production.
“This holistic approach to development is crucial for the overall progress of the state.
“He understands the importance of long-term planning and has initiated various projects that will benefit future generations.
“This includes the establishment of a world-class university, the Bayelsa Medical University, which will not only provide quality education but also create employment opportunities for the youths.”
Domkpee equally applauded Diri’s focus and promotion of peace and unity within the state.
He added that peace has been achieved through various initiatives, such as the Bayelsa Peace and Security Advisory Council.
Domkpee further noted that the governor, being a peace-loving man himself, understands that there can be no meaningful development in a state without peace and security.
While he added that Diri’s achievements speaks for him, Domkpee urged well-meaning Bayelsans to support the efforts of the Governor in making Bayelsa great.
