S’Court victory: prosperity youth coalition hails Diri

..receives award of excellence from JTF commander

The Prosperity Youth Coalition (PYC) has congratulated Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State on his recent victory at the Supreme Court.

It will be recalled that the apex court, in its judgment delivered on Friday, dismissed the appeal brought before it by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Timipre Sylva, and his party, which challenged Diri’s victory in the November 11 Bayelsa State governorship election.

In the lead judgment delivered by Justice Garba Lawal, the apex court held that the appeal by Sylva and the APC was not only lacking merit but also a gross abuse of the court processes.

The unanimous decision of the apex court upheld the earlier decisions of the Court of Appeal and the Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which had affirmed Diri’s election.

In a statement signed by its Secretary General, Barr. Ayibakuro Igbeta, on Friday, the group noted that following his victory, the governor can now focus on the business of governance.

The group called on Bayelsans, especially youths, to put aside their different political inclinations and “join the Prosperity Government in the critical work of developing Bayelsa State.”

Igbeta stressed that “Bayelsa belongs to all Bayelsans; therefore, everyone must join in its building. If we hope to make progress as a people, the PYC is a formidable platform for anyone willing to serve and contribute to this rigorous process of state building.”

In a related development, the Commander of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Delta Safe, South-South Rear Admiral J. U. Okeke, has conferred an “Award of Excellence on the Leadership of the Prosperity Youth Coalition.”

According to him, the award is based on the group’s selfless service to youth building, commitment to youth development, and empowerment.

Presenting the award to the leadership of the PYC, Okeke commended the “zeal, availability, and sincerity with which the PYC conducts its outreaches, sensitization campaigns, and efforts against social vices.”

Responding, Director General of the PYC, Comrade Doubara Kumokuo, promised that the organization is poised to support the military and other development partners.

He averred that the group will continue to strive to work with the state government to achieve its goals.

On his part, Igbeta, expressed that the award brings a sense of fulfillment and called on youths in Bayelsa to close ranks and work for the development of the state.
