Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State on Sunday assured the people of Rivers that his administration will continue its empowerment drive throughout the state.
Fubara made this known at the grand finale of the ward-to-ward sensitization tour organized by the Simplified Movement of Ahoada West Local Government Area, led by the Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Sokari Goodboy Sokari.
The event, which took place at the Akinima Primary School Field, was meant to show solidarity with the governor.
Represented at the event by his Chief of Staff, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, Fubara noted that the greatest complaint of the opposition in the state is that they are no longer in charge of the Local Government Areas.
According to him, “This is because they have been stealing and have nothing to show for it. Today, we have the local government, and the governor’s charge is empowerment, empowerment, empowerment!”
In his remarks, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, urged the people of Ahoada West to remain peaceful and not allow anyone to cause “destruction and mayhem” in their domain.
He encouraged them to continue supporting Sokari in his effort to entrench democratic dividends in the constituency.
Sokari, in his remarks at the event, lauded the people of Ahoada West for the huge turnout and noted that the event was not a political campaign but an opportunity to tell the people “what we have achieved, what we are doing, and what we are going to do.”
While thanking the governor for the appointment of Ehie as Chief of Staff Government House, Sokari further debunked reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held Congresses in the local government.
“I was at home that day. There was no Congress anywhere. If they challenge it, tell them to show you proof that it was held,” he said.
On his part, the Caretaker Chairman of Ahoada West LGA, Hon. Daddy Green, said that his appointment as council chairman has brought peace to the area.
He also highlighted the developmental strides of the governor in the local government area.
In a chat with our reporter shortly after the event, the Secretary of Ahoada West Local Government Council, Gift Onisokumen Warmann, called on the people of the area, especially the women, not to be deterred in their support for the governor.
Also speaking, a youth leader, Mr. Odeamuza Maclean, noted that the people of Ahoada West have resolved to stand behind Fubara and his administration.
On her part, Mrs. Charles Ubile, a PDP stakeholder in the local government, stressed that “come rain, come shine, we will continue to follow Fubara.”
The highlight of the event was the official defection of some opposition members to the PDP led by a former council chairman, Barr. Miller Awori.
A musical performance by popular Afro-pop singer, Jikume Bethlehem, serenaded the audience, alongside wrestling and dancing by various entertainers from the area.
