Yenagoa—The Niger Delta Rural Women for Sustainable Development (NDRWSD) has commended the Ijaw Women of America (IWA) for their consistent efforts geared toward improving the lives and livelihood of the rural dwellers.
The rural women recalled how the IWA has facilitated water projects across numerous communities over the years, saying “it has reduced water-borne diseases among people of the oil-rich region.”
This was contained in a statement signed by the group’s coordinator, Dr. Helen Inafa-Bob, and made available to newsmen on Sunday.
Inafa-Bob described the water scheme as a noble and well-thought-out initiative that has greatly benefited the rural dwellers.
“Our industrious sisters in America have been giving back so much to their motherland. Hence, their recent gesture of distributing varieties of food items during the yuletide season in the Niger Delta region did not come as a surprise to us,” she said.
The statement appreciated the efforts of the IWA, stressing that the women have been doing so much to ameliorate the plight of the vulnerable people in the region.
The group insists the generous acts of the Ijaw Women of America are not only laudable but pose a challenge to other well-to-do sons and daughters of the region to embark on such philanthropic gestures to give back to the Ijaw nation and by extension the entire Niger Delta.
“There’s no denying the fact that the country is tough for the ordinary citizen, hence this act of generosity by the IWA aimed at ameliorating the plight of the vulnerable persons in the Ijaw nation is timely and a welcome development.
“There can be no embellishment of these kind of humane gestures from a group of thoughtful daughters of the soil.
“The Ijaw Women of America are doing extremely well on their part to help those in need in our society and there’s no greater demonstration of the communal Ijaw spirit than that,” the statement partly read.
The rural Niger Delta women further urged the IWA to continue in their philanthropic acts, noting that “their contributions to the development of the Ijaw Nation even from far away America does not go unnoticed.”
The statement prayed for God to bless all the members of IWA in their life endeavours “as they remember to give back to the Ijaw nation from faraway America.”
