Yenagoa—In commemoration of the 2024 World Cancer Day, which was marked February 4, the Niger Delta Rural Women for Sustainable Development (NRWSD), Sunday, embarked on a march to major markets in Yenagoa to create awareness about cancer, its prevention, early detection, and treatment in Nigeria.
Mangrovepen.ng gathered that group members who carried flyers and banners with inscriptions about cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, and with unique outfits, took time to educate market women on breast, cervical, and other types of cancers.
This year’s World Cancer Day which was themed “close the care gap,”—is an emphasis on people in power to do more and show strong political will for the provision of quality, accessible, and affordable cancer care.
The group therefore called on the government as well as stakeholders in the healthcare sector to make quality cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services accessible and affordable to all.
The NDRWSD also used the medium to express gratitude to its patron, the Interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Major General Barry Ndiomu (rtd) for his “uncommon support and sponsorship in making the 2024 World Cancer Day commemoration a huge success.”
“We are looking forward to a more fruitful partnership with PAP in empowering women across the Niger Delta region,” the group added.
The group equally thanked its project coordinator, Mr. Inemo Esinte for his invaluable contributions toward the success of the outreach.
It was gathered that the NDRWSD took the advocacy to other parts of the state earlier on Tuesday.
