A statement by the family signed by Mr. Jothan Diri stated that Pa Diri died on Sunday, February 12 at the age of 88.
According to the statement, “Pa Diri, a Headmaster, a devout Christian and a man of exemplary humility, is the father of the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri.
“The Diri family and indeed the entire Sampou community are consoled that our dear brother and father lived a fulfilled life.
“Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.”
Meanwhile, the lawmaker representing Brass Constituency 1 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly has commiserated with Governor Diri over his father’s demise.
“The sad news of the demise of Pa Abraham Diri, father of our Leader and the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri came to me as a rude shock, especially knowing how dear and valuable he was to His Excellency.
“On behalf of my family and constituents, I condole with our Governor, the Diri Family and the entire people of Sampou in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area and pray for the repose of the octogenarian’s soul,” Charles wrote on his official Facebook page.
