Ex-governor Dickson was prudent with state resources—public commentator

Yenagoa—Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Seriake Dickson, has been praised for managing the state’s resources during his time as Governor.

Dickson, who is currently the Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, was also hailed for reducing the state’s debt profile during his reign.

A public affairs commentator, Akpofini Timothy, made this known in a statement sent to managrovepen.ng on Thursday.

He said that “any good student of history will remember that there was a global economic recession that hit so hard on the economy for some years while Dickson reigned as governor.

“During that period, Bayelsa State was managing from 4 billion to 6b billion monthly allocations.”

He averred that despite the comparatively lean resources of the state, Dickson managed to reduce the debt profile from N230b to N120b and empowered about 3000 appointees majority of which were youths.

“Sometimes I wonder how Dickson as Governor managed to employ about 8000 civil servants, began the three senatorial roads, and established model educational institutions across the State.

“Ultimately, he did what no governor before him did by building the Bayelsa international airport. All these and more he did amidst limited resources.

Akpofini maintained that “Dickson remains a living legend, prudent manager of resources and political gladiator that must be studied by leaders who desire to make an impact in public service.”
