Pipeline surveillance impasse: medical practitioner proposes solution

Yenagoa—A public affairs commentator, Dr. Inenyo Esinte, has suggested ways to end the impasse generated by the award of a pipeline surveillance contract to a former militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo akaTompolo by the Federal Government.

It will be recalled that some ex-agitators in a widely circulated video raised concerns about the award of the contract to Tompolo.

Esinte who is the Secretary, Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria, Bayelsa State, in a statement on Thursday, noted that the peace currently enjoyed in the Niger Delta should be seen as a lesson, given the sad events of previous years.

His words: “The current inclinations, ripples and misgivings on the award of contracts for oil and gas Installations within the Niger Delta if not keenly, urgently and holistically addressed will spiral into a new and greater dimension of security threats within and outside the Niger Delta.

“It is true that no single individual or group has the monopoly of knowledge, experience and solutions to solve the challenges and problems bedeviling the Niger Delta region, hence a collective, all-inclusive, non-partisan, sincere and result-oriented approach is needed to sustain the gains made thus far.”

According to him, issues such as inter and intra-communal conflicts, formation of new splinter agitation groups, organized protests, retaliatory visualization and occupancy of oil and gas installations will affect the daily crude oil production in the country, if not properly handled

He called on the Federal Government and leaders in the Niger Delta to take urgent proactive steps toward preventing a looming security crisis.

Esinte also averred that he has conceptualized and developed a four-pronged result-oriented approach and solutions which will be very helpful in addressing the agitations surrounding the misgivings on the recent award of pipeline surveillance contracts.

“I am willing to make a robust presentation with workable, practical and implementable result-oriented solutions,” he revealed.
