Diri’s aide commend governor for commitment to attaining 17 SDGs

Yenagoa—The Senior Special Assistant and Focal Person on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to the Bayelsa State governor, Dr. Ebiwari Wariowei has commended governor Douye Diri for his commitment to the attainment of the 17 SDGs in the state.

Wariowei who gave the commendation following Governor Diri’s visit to the United Nations headquarters in New York, United States, last week, said the call for collaboration with the UN was apt, timely, and in the best interest of a state like Bayelsa

During the visit, Governor Diri met the Deputy Secretary-General, Dr. Amina Mohammed, and asked for sustained collaboration with the UN.

According to him, Senator Diri has demonstrated uncommon commitment and passion for development by building critical infrastructure that will provide great opportunities to open up the state for more investments in different sectors

While he stressed that Bayelsa is in dire need of development partners who will collaborate with the government in key areas like education, health, women, and youth empowerment, Wariowei called on the UN and other development partners to partner with the Bayelsa State Government to help speed up development in the state.

Wariowei stated that Governor Diri is using the Bayelsa SDGs Office to drive his Prosperity Agenda by implementing key projects and programmes like the distribution of 100 hospital beds, mattresses, and cupboards to selected primary health centres across the eight LGAs and the award of 12.5 km rural roads to open of various LGAs.

Other laudable achievements include the 100-bed Mother and Child Hospital built by SDGs in collaboration with the federal government, empowerment and vocational training of over 300 Bayelsans in catering, fashion design, shoemaking, digital marketing and design, the building of a vocational training centre at Sampou, among several others.

He however urged citizens to support the government’s effort to ensure Bayelsa is peaceful, stable, secured, and prosperous, adding that with less than two years left in Senator Diri’s first tenure, many laudable projects and programmes will be launched to make life meaningful for all.
