Bayelsa community to host annual festival, confer award on Sylva, Degi, others

Brass—Ewoama community in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State will on Wednesday 29th December 2021 celebrate its annual Kuronama Festival.

Usually hosted by the United Ewoama Youth Council, the festival is an annual end-of-year event commemorating the killing of a leopard (kuronama) that terrorized the communities in Brass Island in the 19th century.

According to the Ewoama Youth President, Mr. Nathan Berepelenyo, this year’s festival will feature a dancing competition, wrestling, masquerade and other cultural display, lake party, among others.

He hinted that the youth body will also honour some indigenes of Ewoama and other personalities who have contributed to the resettlement and developmental process of Ewoama since the communal war that razed down the entire community.

According to him, “tomorrow, the United Ewoama Youth Council will award His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, for his support to our community.

“We will also award HRM King Ebitimi Banigo, Okpo XXI, the Amanyanabo of Okpoama kingdom, Senator B.W. Degi-Eremienyo, Hon. Israel Sunny-Goli, Hon. Victor Isaiah, Hon. Timi Agala-Omubo, Kojo Sam, Okardi Inikurogha and a host of others.
