Uyo—The Akwa Ibom State government is set to establish a compliance team to enforce the anti-open grazing law in the state, DailyTrust reports.
According to a press release by the commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Ini Ememobong, the directive was one of the decisions reached after the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday in Uyo.
“The report of compliance with anti-open grazing Law was presented and the EXCO directed that a Special Compliance Unit be inaugurated to ensure total compliance,” he said.
Recall Governor Udom Emmanuel had on September 15, signed into law a bill to prohibit open rearing and grazing and provide for the establishment of ranches in the state.
Ememobong said the government has also directed that all illegal trading outlets on streets and roads in the state should be dismantled to curb the issue of street trading.
He averred that before prosecution of defaulters begins, the government will sensitize and engage the relevant stakeholders to ensure voluntary compliance which would last for two weeks.
