Bayelsa State School of Nursing and Midwifery upgraded to college

Yenagoa—The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) Tuesday announced that it has upgraded the Bayelsa State School of Nursing and Midwifery to a college.

Farouk Abubakar, the Secretary-General/ Registrar of the NMCN, stated this when he visited Senator Douye Diri, executive Governor of Bayelsa State in Government House, Yenagoa.

Daniel Alabrah, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Diri in a statement quoted Farouk as saying the upgrade became possible because of the accreditation team’s satisfaction with the facilities and infrastructure in the institution.

He noted that the upgrade will enable the institution to establish campuses in different parts of the state and can also be affiliated with the Faculty of Nursing at the Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island.

He also stated that the team also increased the admission slots allotted to the institution to 150 percent.

Abubakar thanked Diri for providing facilities at the institution and promoting health-related activities in the state.

While responding, Diri welcomed the upgrade of the school by the council and pledged to develop the state’s health sector.

According to him, “We appreciate you for your favourable pronouncements, which include upgrading the school to a college, proposal for the creation of additional campuses as well as proposing that the college be affiliated to the Niger Delta University.

“We assure you that we are equal to the task. The need for the development of the infrastructure and multi-campuses will be considered. For us, health and education are two things we do not toy with,” he stated.
