Ex-Agitators sue for peace amid rising tensions surrounding Tompolo, Tantita

To ensure peace and stability in the Niger Delta, three prominent ex-agitators—Aso Tambou, pioneer Chairman phase 2, John Esuku, Vice Chairman phase, and Julius Joseph pioneer Chairman Phase 3—have pleaded with stakeholders to quickly address the escalating tensions in the region.

Recent events have intensified the situation, following the release of a video by a US-based group.

The protesters in the video called on President Bola Tinubu and Inspector General of Police, Koyode Egbetokun, to investigate High Chief Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo, the Presidential Amnesty Boss, Chief Dennis Otuaro, as well as the GCEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Mele Kyari.

The group made serious allegations, including claims of kidnapping and other criminal activities occurring in the Niger Delta, threatening to organize protests against Tinubu during his visit to New York in January 2025.

However, the ex-agitators have strongly condensed what they characterize as “baseless accusations aimed at discrediting Tompolo and the Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited.”

They specifically addressed claims made by one Mr. Jude Gbaboyor, who alleged that Tompolo has collaborated with the Maclver family to commit acts of kidnapping and intimidation under the guise of security operations.

“General” Tambou, “General” Esuku, and “General” Joseph firmly dismissed the allegations as unfounded and politically motivated, contending that certain individuals among the ex-agitator community are driven by personal ambition that cause power struggles for their own benefit.

The ex-agitators highlighted the vital role that Tantita Security Services Limited has played in protecting critical infrastructure and combating economic sabotage in the region.

The former Niger Delta freedom fighters pointed out that attacks on the integrity of Tantita do not only undermine its efforts but also pose a significant threat to the peace and security of the oil-rich region.

To help mediate and resolve the burgeoning conflict, they called on former President Goodluck Jonathan, elder statesman Pa Edwin Clark, and Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, Dr. Boladei Igali, to step in and facilitate discussions.

They also appealed to traditional rulers, youth leaders, women groups, fellow ex-agitators, and other stakeholders to transcend personal grievances and engage in constructive dialogue.

According to the three ex-agitators, if the ongoing disputes are not addressed, there is a substantial risk that the stability of the PAP could be compromised.

“This program has been essential in reducing violence and facilitating development across the region, making its integrity paramount,” they said.

While acknowledging the many challenges facing the Niger Delta, the ex-agitators expressed optimism that through collective action and cooperation, the region can emerge as a model of peace, stability, and prosperity within Nigeria.
