Kemepado calls for collective investment in youths at 7th NCYD in Maiduguri

The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Alfred Kemepado, has called for collective investment in Nigerian youths.

Doing so, according to him, would equip them to thrive in a rapidly changing world while contributing meaningfully to the country’s economic transformation.

The youth commissioner opined that youths are the backbone of Nigeria and the future.

Kemepado made the statement while representing Bayelsa state at the 7th National Council on Youth Development (NCYD), held from Monday, December 9th, to Thursday, December 12th, 2024, in Maiduguri, headquarters of Borno State.

He emphasized the Bayelsa State government’s commitment to align its youth development agenda with national objectives.

He also highlighted ongoing initiatives within Bayelsa, such as skill acquisition programs, youth entrepreneurship hubs, and mentorship schemes designed to position young people as catalysts for economic growth.

“We must collectively invest in their potential, ensuring they are equipped to thrive in a rapidly changing world while contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic transformation,” he said during one of the technical sessions.

The commissioner also noted the unique challenges faced by youths in Bayelsa, particularly in addressing environmental and economic hurdles linked to its oil-dependent economy.

He therefore called for increased collaboration between the federal government, private sector, and international development partners to tailor solutions for the Niger Delta region.

Earlier In his opening address, the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum, captured the essence of the event, saying that “The future belongs to the youths that can dream, and the government’s duty is to support that dream.”

The Governor’s words served as a rallying call for increased investment in initiatives that empower young people to pursue their aspirations while contributing to national development.

It was gathered that the event was attended by policymakers, stakeholders, and experts in youth development from across the nation to discuss and advance actionable strategies for empowering Nigerian youth.
