Project tour: Diri’s aide, Oredipe, reaffirms govt’s commitment to complete ongoing projects

The Bayelsa State Government New Media, led by its Director-General, Dr. Kola Oredipe, Wednesday, embarked on an inspection tour of key ongoing projects in the state.

Oredipe, while speaking at the site of the ongoing Ogobiri-Bolou Orua Road project, assured the Bayelsans of the Governor Douye Diri-led administration’s commitment to complete the project on record time.

He said, when completed, the road will connect Bayelsa Central to Bayelsa West and alleviate the burden of using the East-West Road to access the Bayelsa airport.

Also speaking, an indigene of Okumbiri community, Angela Biribai, lauded the state government for “making life easy for residents.”

She noted that before the commencement of the project, accessing Ogobiri and Amassoma was difficult, but the ongoing work has significantly improved access, even though the project is still ongoing.

She commended the governor for his commitment to develop the hinterlands, praying for him to see to the completion of the project.

During the inspection of Glory Drive Phase 3, the team received updates from Engr. Odi Lee, a representative of the contractor, CCECC.

The expatriate expressed optimism about completing the project by December 2025 which stretches from Tombia-Amassoma road to Imgbi road.

When asked about potential challenges, Lee said, “the CCECC is having little or no obstacles, as the State Government has fully mobilized the company.”

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Works, Engr. Cliff Eribo, who is a Director in the Ministry, expressed the state government’s readiness to support the contractor on site.

“Although recent flooding has delayed progress due to sand scarcity, the project has achieved 2.5 kilometres of stone-base work out of a total of 7.8 kilometres”, he hinted.

At the site of the Angiama-Oporoma bridge and the Angiama-Ukubie road, which spans to Otuan Community, Oredipe expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the project since the self-styled Prosperity Administration took over from the previous administration in Egeibiri Community.

He also noted progress on the Oporoma-Ukubie road and the spur to Otuan community, reiterating the government’s commitment to unlock the hinterlands for economic development.

Mr. Camelo Lee, a representative of the road contractor, CCECC, detailed the progress made on the project.

He briefed the team that 2 kilometres have been completed on Oporoma road out of a total of 7.4 kilometres, while 1.5 kilometres have been covered on the Otuan road, which is 2.1 kilometres long.

He further assured the team that all projects would be concluded by 2025.

Mr. Samuel Ataba, the Community Liaison Officer (CLO) for Otuan Community, immensely thanked the governor for including Otuan in the project.

He highlighted the significant improvement in access to Yenagoa, even at night as a result of the road project.

Similarly, Mr. Prince Matthew, CLO of Oporoma Community, expressed gratitude to the Bayelsa State Governor for the ongoing work, noting that 3 kilometres of the road have already been completed.

The youth leaders from Angiama and Otuan Communities also expressed their appreciation to the governor.

According to them, the project has fostered economic activity and opened their communities to new opportunities.

The inspection concluded with a visit to the newly built Commissioners’ Quarters and the House of Assembly Members’ Quarters, both nearing completion.

Speaking to newsmen, Mrs. Koku Obiyai, the Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, also reaffirmed that the Ogobiri-Bolou Orua Road is a project that the people have long desired.

She emphasized that the road project and others mentioned are part of Diri’s campaign promises that are being fulfilled.

She however called on Bayelsans to support the state government in developing and moving the state forward.
