Props as maiden Daniel Charles Quiz and Spelling Bee competition draws to a close

Winners have emerged and talents have been discovered as the maiden edition of the Hon. Daniel Charles Quiz and Spelling Bee competition ended yesterday.

The educational event which is an initiative of Hon. Daniel Charles, the lawmaker representing Brass Constituency I in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, was held at Twon Brass, the headquarters of Brass Local Government Area from 4th to 6th December.

The lawmaker said the competition was to promote efficiency in learning, building a strong educational structure and standards amongst secondary school students as well as to unite students across Brass constituency I.

The competition which saw the participation of Government schools and government approved private schools within communities in Brass Constituency I included two events—the spelling bee competition which was for Junior Secondary schools and the Quiz competition for the Senior Secondary Schools.

Sunny-Goli Memorial School Twon Brass emerged Winner of the Spelling Bee competition winning a N150, 000 grand prize with Community Secondary school (CSS) Twon Brass finishing as first runner-up winning N100,000 and Government Model School (GMS) ending up as second runner-up going home with a reward of N50,000.

In the Quiz competition, Government Secondary Secondary (GMS) Twon Brass emerged winners, going home with the grand prize of N500,000, Sunny-Goli Memorial School Twon Brass finished second with a reward of N300,000 while Community Secondary school (CSS) Egwe-ama finished third position clinching a reward of N200,000.

Peter Godgift, from Government Model Secondary School, Twon Brass, who emerged the overall best performer in the quiz competition said she is excited and joyous to achieve the feat.

Godgift who was given a monetary reward of N100,000 for her brilliant performance said the competition had exposed him to make friends with people that have same interest as him and also helped him in acquiring a problem-solving skill.

He further thanked Charles for the opportunity and prayed for God’s blessings on his life.

Similarly, another contestant from Sunny-Goli Memorial School, Twon Brass, Olaoluwa Vivian, said she felt great about the competition and advised fellow students “to take their academics seriously because it can change their lives unexpectedly.”

Mr. Daukoru Liver-Daniel, the SGC secretary of Twon Brass kingdom, commenting after the programme, said the quiz has helped discovered talented kids with an untapped potential around communities in the Constituency who are even more knowledgeable than most kids on Television.

According to him, the initiative has given them a platform to prove themselves as well as made their families and communities proud regardless of their position in the quiz competition.

Thanking the organizers of the Programme, he said, “Education is the best legacy you can give to a person, and with this, education is being promoted and his reward is in heaven.”

The first prize for the Quiz competition was sponsored by HRH Samuel Sambo, the Amadabo of Sambo-ama in Twon Brass.

The spelling bee competition was sponsored by HRH Israel Sunny Goli-Kemmer, Amadabo of Kemmer-Ama and a former member of the House of Representatives for the Brass-Nembe federal constituency.

Meanwhile, the programme was partnered by the Bayelsa Education Development Trust Fund.
