The leadership of the 2nd and 3rd phase ex-agitators of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) declared their non-participation in the ongoing nationwide protest.
The leaders, who made this known in a press briefing on Wednesday in Warri, Delta State, restated their commitment to peaceful dialogue and progress under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking at the event, General Preye Ekpebide, Chairman of the 3rd Phase, while distancing the ex-agitators from the protest, noted that since Tinubu assumed office as president, there have been positive improvements in the country.
He argued that when former President Muhammadu Buhari, “a northerner,” held sway for eight years, there was no form of “political protest” against his administration by the South West.
“But now a westerner is president, and the north is leading a protest against his government,” he said.
While calling on Niger Deltans, especially the youths, to shun the protest, he urged them to resist any attempt to be used by unscrupulous elements to cause mayhem.
On their part, General Kingsley Muturu, Chairman of the 2nd Phase ex-agitators, and other leaders highlighted the importance of giving the president time to address the country’s challenges.
They also reaffirmed their belief in the potential for positive change through constructive engagement with the government.
