Bayelsa council boss lauds Diri, tackles ex-Radio Bayelsa GM for comment on Dickson

Brass—The Chairman of Brass Local Government Council in Bayelsa State, Victor Isaiah has labelled ex-General Manager of the Bayelsa State Broadcasting Corporation, Dr. John Idumange a liar over his recent comments on former Bayelsa State governor, Senator Seriake Dickson.

Idumange while reacting to one Ifiemi Kypus in a post discussing the recently kicked off Nembe-Brass road on Facebook had claimed that “Dickson did not hide his dislike for the Nembe-speaking area because of our brother.”

In a statement on Sunday, Isaiah said Idumange is ungrateful to Dickson whom he claims is his former boss and under whom he was appointed the “Director of New Media and later General Manager of Radio Bayelsa.”

He said Idumange has always had an element of betrayal in him considering how he had also insulted the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva who was also once his benefactor.

The Brass council chairman making a case for Dickson said the former Governor among other things facilitated the construction of the Ogbia-Nembe road.

According to him, Dickson nominated Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (rtd) and HRH (Barr) David Serena Dokubo-Spiff who are illustrious sons of Nembe as Deputy Governor and Secretary to the State Government, respectively against the wishes of some party members.

He added that it was under Dickson the state government allotted land to the Brass Fertilizer and Petrochemical Company Limited and subsequently signed an agreement with Chinese investors for its construction.

The statement reads, “Sadly, Idumange has decided to bite the finger that once fed him, considering how he was appointed Director of New Media and later General Manager of Radio Bayelsa under the Dickson-led Restoration Government.

“However, this is not surprising knowing how he (Idumange) has continued to pour vituperation against Chief Timipre Sylva who was also his benefactor.

“It was this same rare quality that former Governor Dickson exhibited by giving a three billion naira cheque to Setraco Nigeria Limited to quickly commence the Ogbia-Nembe road which is now existing to the delight of all and sundry.

“Idumange needs to be reminded how Dickson, against the wishes of some PDP bigwigs in the state, nominated Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (rtd) and HRH (Barr) David Serena Dokubo-Spiff as Deputy Governor and Secretary to the State Government, respectively.

“This is in addition to the appointment of several other Nembe sons and daughters into sensitive positions in his government.

“All thanks to Dickson, today, NNGS Ogbolomabiri and GSS Twon Brass are functioning as model secondary schools, giving our children the best education they deserve; not to mention the remarkable pavilion that is also functioning in the Brass LGA headquarters.

“It was still under Dickson that the state government allotted land to the Brass Fertilizer and Petrochemical Company Limited and signed an agreement with some Chinese investors for the construction of the plant.

“No governor has shown love to the Nembe-speaking people like Dickson. The Idumange I know is clearly looking for a political appointment and he thinks the best way to get it is to now discredit Dickson and praise Diri, whom he has been discrediting since the inception of this administration. This has always been his major strategy to court attention to himself and benefit from each regime.

“Idumange should stop the incessant attack on Bayelsa leaders and add value to himself because trying to defame and pit leaders against one another will not earn him any appointment.

“As Nembe people, we are happy with Dickson and Diri for prioritizing the development of our communities.”

The council chairman thanked Governor Douye Diri for completing the Unity Bridge and commencing the Nembe-Brass road, among other projects, which he said are crucial to the Nembe people.

He added that the governor’s gesture is a testament to the all-inclusive leadership style of all Bayelsa leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
