Ex-agitator lauds N’Delta leaders for speaking against planned protest

Former Niger Delta freedom fighter, Comr. Tonye Bobo aka Sir T, has commended Niger Delta leaders for “unanimously speaking against the planned nationwide protest” scheduled for tomorrow, August 1st.

While he maintained that the protest is neither in the interest of the Niger Delta region nor Nigeria, Bobo opined that it could be hijacked by hoodlums to cause mayhem just like during the EndSars protest in 2020.

Bobo, who is the immediate past national chairman of the third phase ex-agitators forum of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, made this known in a statement made available to Mangrovepen.ng on Wednesday.

“There is no doubt that the country is facing economic challenges due to the wrongs of yesteryears. But the planned protest will not in any way be in the interest of the region or Nigeria.

“There is also a high tendency that it will be hijacked like the EndSars protest which claimed several lives and destroyed valuable property across the country,” he stated.

He maintained that President Bola Tinubu is working assiduously, against all odds, to initiate and execute far-reaching projects reforms that will in the long run change the plight of Nigerians.

He therefore urged Nigerians to exercise patience as well as support the Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Bobo further thanked Tinubu for supporting the Niger Delta region since assuming office by appointing sons and daughters of the region into key positions.

He equally expressed gratitude to the president for sustaining the pipeline surveillance contracts which he said have meaningfully engaged thousands of Niger Delta youths.

His words: “President Bola Tinubu since assuming office has been supportive of the Niger Delta region.

“This is seen in his appointment of some of our leaders to head key government agencies like Sen. Goodwill Akpabio (Senate President), Dr. Heineken Lokpobiri (Petroleum Minister for oil) Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, (MD NDDC), Dr. Dennis Otuaro (PAP Administrator), Ebinimi Amgbare (MD NDRBDA), and many more.

“The president in turn needs the support of the Niger Delta people and we should not fail to support him and his government especially in this time when anarchists are trying to take advantage of the economic hardship in the country to cause an uprising in the form of protest.

“We Niger Deltans are solidly behind President Bola Tinubu and we are therefore not in support of the planned protest which is aimed at destabilizing the country and making it ungovernable for the president.”
