Yenagoa—Henry Porbeni, a tech entrepreneur, has alleged that security operatives are mounting barricades and extorting motorists at the Bayelsa state toll gate along, Melford Okilo expressway, Yenagoa.
Porbeni who made this known in a Facebook post alleged that security operatives stationed by the toll gate extort money from motorists before they can gain access into Yenagoa, the state capital.
“The scene at the toll gate right now is a mess. The uniform men there are claiming Bayelsa state is on lockdown and the Government has not lifted the ban.
“This excuse has become a platform for blocking the road and extorting people coming into the state anything from 8 pm. Failure to comply results in harassment, threats and time-wasting searches.
“Please, something urgent should be done about this sore sight at the toll gate. Before it will result in a trigger-happy uniform man shooting somebody one day and calling it an accidental discharge. All because of N200 that the other fellow refused to part with.
“Hmm, wisdom is profitable to direct. Let the right thing be done and save innocent and law-abiding citizens of unnecessary difficulties,” the post reads.
When mangrovepen.ng contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa State Police Command, SP Asinim Butswat for comments he stated that measures are being put in place to address the situation.
“Measures are being made to address such issues,” he said.
