The pioneer commissioner for community development in Bayelsa State, Hon. Alfred Belemote has called for the collaboration of traditional institutions and other community leadership across the state to enable his newly created ministry succeed.
The commissioner made the call over the weekend while speaking to various community leaders, including chiefs, community development committee (CDC), youth group, and women during a visit to his hometown, Okpoama, in Brass Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking to newsmen during the visit, the commissioner said “Charity begins at home. So I’ve come to my community to present myself first to the traditional institutions, that’s the chiefs council, the CDC, the youths, the women and every other relevant sector of the community.
“The major mandate of my office is to develop the community, and these are the major custodians of the community.
“So I’ve come to meet with them, to seek for their partnership and collaboration to deliver the dividends of democracy in tandem with the vision of Governor Douye Diri because I cannot function all alone.”
He added that the visit marked the beginning of his ministry’s consultation across the state.
In their separate remarks, during the visit, members of the chiefs council, women and youth leaders spoke glowingly of Belemote and expressed their support for him and his ministry.
