I’m not interested in Greek gift, Diri replies group urging Atiku to pick him as running mate

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has dispelled a recent call on ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar to make him his running mate in the 2027 presidential election.

A group which goes by the name Diri Angels had in a statement made the suggestion to Atiku who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 presidential election.

The group expressed hope that Atiku would emerge the party’s presidential candidate again in 2027.

But in a statement released today by his spokesman, Diri described the group as non-existent, noting that the suggestion is “a Greek gift from political jobbers and that it should be completely disregarded.”

While maintaining that the group’s aim was to cause disaffection in some quarters, Diri said the plot had failed.

Alabrah quoted Diri to have emphatically stated that God had always guided him on his political journey and that he was not swayed by any advocacy that was inconsistent with his godly and political principles.

The statement also assured of Diri’s commitment to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Bayelsa State.

The Bayelsa helmsman admonished people of the state not to worry about the antics of political buccaneers whose intention, he said, was to cause confusion in an attempt to distract him.

In his words: “I am not swayed by such calls. In my political journey, I have always relied on God and not on political jobbers with devious intentions.

“The aim of those behind this act is to cause disaffection but the plot is dead on arrival as I’m not interested in such a Greek gift.

“I remain committed to the mandate given to me by the Bayelsa people and I’m single-mindedly focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to them.”

Diri concluded by saying that his administration will not be distracted by those who do not mean well for Bayelsa.
