The Niger Delta Rural Women for Sustainable Development (NDRWSD) has commended HRH Samuel Sambo, the Amadabo of Sambo ama in Twon Brass Kingdom of Bayelsa State, over his contributions to education in the state and the Niger Delta region at large.
The traditional ruler who has been granting educational scholarships to students via his nonprofit organization—Sambo Foundation—has so far awarded scores of scholarships to indigent students in various higher institutions.
The latest of the scholarship came on Friday, when the foundation announced it has awarded 34 students in various Nigerian universities and the National Teachers Institute (NTI), paying each beneficiary the sum of N250,000 each.
The coordinator of the group, Hon. Helen Bob made the commendation on behalf of the women while speaking to Mangrovepen.ng yesterday.
She said, “What our royal father is doing especially in the area of education, awarding scholarships to indigent students in our clime and beyond, is most commendable and almost unprecedented.
“We know the onus is on government to ensure quality education for all citizens but to see him take it upon himself to help students that are not so financially buoyant to see themselves through school deserves our applause.”
Helen Bob said the monarch’s gesture will in no small way enable the beneficiaries to focus on their studies and come out with flying colours.
“It is only through education that the future of Bayelsa State and indeed the Niger Delta will be secured.
“I encourage the traditional ruler to continue in his good ways of sponsoring students through school and equally called on other leaders in the region to emulate the monarch and invest in education,” she said.
The group’s leader admitted that the monarch equally supported her in her ongoing doctoral studies, being impressed with her educational pursuit.
She therefore prayed for Sambo to have deep pockets to continue his good works and benevolence.
