Ex-IYC spokesman, Owoupele lauds Otuaro’s appointment, says new PAP boss will redefine programme

A former spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Barr. Jeremiah Perekeme Owoupele has commended the appointment of Dr. Dennis Otuaro as the new Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).

He also lauded President Bola Tinubu for the appointment which he likened to putting a round peg in a round hole.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Yenagoa on Friday, the ex-IYC spokesman further described Otuaro’s appointment as a bold step by the President to maintain peace in the oil-rich Niger Delta region.

He said, “This appointment is a bold statement that expresses two things: First is the desire by the President to strategically redefine the road map towards achieving lasting peace in the region as well as sustaining the cardinal and noble objectives of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

“Secondly, Dr. Otuaro’s appointment is to show that Mr. President is a man that puts the peoples aspirations and expectations on the front burner.

“This action further reaffirms the fact that President Tinubu is in tandem with the realities of the Niger Delta.”

Owoupele congratulated the new PAP boss, expressing that his appointment is a unique turning point in the history of the Programme as well as the Niger Delta.

“Dr. Dennis is not a stranger to the issues affecting ex-agitators in the region and with deep knowledge of the struggle, he is poised and in a very good position to redefine the amnesty programme.

“He should be rest assured that Ijaw people are happy and are solidly behind him,” he further said.
