Brass—The Twon Brass Kingdom Council of Chiefs (TBKCC) in Bayelsa State has taken a swipe at the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Joshua MacIver, following the inciting comments he made during the party campaigns on Saturday, October 28.
The Council also demanded the Nigerian Police to make the governorship candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva and his deputy sign an undertaking to ensure the peaceful conduct of their supporters before, during and after the November 11 governorship election in the community.
The TBKCC in a statement signed by its Chairman, Chief Christian John-Ondi, and Secretary, Irigha Spiff-Inikio on Friday condemned the comments as reckless, unguarded and capable of creating wrong impressions in the minds of young people to cause havoc.
The chiefs added that such inflammatory comments should not be associated with a man aspiring to lead the people.
The statement reads in full:
“The attention of the Twon Brass Kingdom Council of Chiefs has been drawn to the utterances by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy Governorship candidate on Saturday, the 28th of October 2023 on the campaign ground in Twon Brass which portends danger to the lives, safety, destruction of properties as well as obstruction of law, order and peace of the good people of Twon Brass Kingdom.
“This reckless and unguarded declaration by the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the APC that any person who misbehaves on the governorship election day be killed and drowned in the sea is an aberration and should not be associated with a man aspiring to lead people.
“The Twon Brass Kingdom Council of Chiefs considers these remarks as inciting in a political campaign ground because it is capable of creating a wrong impression on the minds of his listeners majority of whom are young people.
“The Council, therefore, condemned in its entirety the call to mayhem, disorderly behaviour, and disruption of law and order in Twon Brass in particular and Bayelsa State in general by the APC.
“The Twon Brass Council of Chiefs hereby call on the Police and all relevant security agencies to call the APC to order and make the Governorship and the Deputy Governorship candidates to undertake an undertaking to ensure peace before, during and after the 11th November Governorship election.
“Twon Brass is known for its peaceful disposition at all times. We shall not fold our arms and allow anybody no matter how highly placed to create confusion and chaos in our Kingdom.”
