Yenagoa—A non-governmental organization, Niger Delta Rural Women for Sustainable Development (NDRWSD) has been officially launched to champion the course of Niger Delta women.
According to Kakaaki Reporters, the inauguration was held in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital on Friday, September 22, 2023.
Speaking during the inauguration, the coordinator of the NGO, Hon. Helen Bob, explained that the organization will serve as a vehicle to empower women in the oil-rich region, by providing resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities to promote their dreams.
“We are to ensure the advancement of rural Niger Delta Women whose hope for economic survival and good health is fading away due to the environmental hazards caused by oil exploration and exploitation in the Niger Delta region.
“To encourage women to become economically independent, have positive self-esteem, and self-reliance, generate confidence to face difficult situations.
“Mediate between the Rural Women and Government Authorities for Sustainable empowerment which gives them all the fundamental rights concerning their lives in all spheres.
“To organise enlightenment campaigns, seminars, and workshops for women, on health, psychology, economy, politics, social, and environment.
“To partner with every relevant body for the sustainable development of the Rural Niger Delta Women,” she said.
She also noted that NDRWSD would ensure that women are uplifted through funding, training, collaboration and advocacy.
“We would together turn the fortunes of the region around as women, the bedrock of the society,” she added.
