IYC visits stakeholders, promises to challenge status quo

Yenagoa—The 9th National Executive Council of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide (IYC) led by Jonathan Lokpobiri has embarked on a string of courtesy visits to critical stakeholders in the Niger Delta region.

According to the Liberator News, the IYC which commenced the visits on Monday has so far visited the President of Ijaw National Congress (INC), Prof. Benjamin Okaba, the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Ijaw affairs, Elder Patrick Ucheowaji Erasmus, and former President of the IYC, Alhaji Asari Dokubo.

Lokpobiri during the visits promised that together with his Exco members and other critical stakeholders of the council, he will provide good leadership for Ijaw youths.

He said the courtesy visit to critical stakeholders in the region is important to move the council forward, stressing that the visits will continue.

He however said Ijaws are not comfortable with the current arrangement of things in the Nigerian State regarding the equitable distribution of the national resources, adding that the IYC will challenge the status quo.

Lokpobiri also unveiled the agenda of the 9th NEC and maintained that the council will no longer keep quiet amidst “injustice meted out on the Ijaws in the Nigerian State.”

The trio of Prof. Benjamin Ogele Okaba, Elder Patrick Ucheowaji Erasmus, and Alhaji Asari Dokubo, in their separate remarks, assured the new leadership of the IYC of their support.

They promised that they will do everything within their power to make council succeed in its new mandate.
