Bayelsa police repel attack on station, begin investigation

Ogbia—Personnel of the Bayelsa State Police Command in the Ogbia Divisional Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Monday, were said to have repelled an attack by suspected gunmen.

This was according to a statement by the spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command, SP Asinim Butswat on Monday.

He said the suspected gunmen opened fire on the Policemen on duty at the Ogbia Divisional Headquarters on Monday afternoon with the intent to dispossess them of their firearms but were repelled by policemen on duty.

While disclosing that no lives were lost during the attack, Bustwat hinted that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the perpetrators.

“The suspected gunmen opened fire on the Policemen on duty at the Ogbia Divisional Headquarters on 26 June 2023 at about 0230 hours, with the intent to dispossess them of their rifles.

“The gallant Police Operatives repelled the attack forcing the gunmen to retreat and escaped through the waterways. No life was lost in the attack.

“Tactical squads, the Marine Police, and other security agencies were alerted. Security operatives are making frantic efforts to identify the perpetrators and arrest them. An investigation is ongoing,” the statement partly read.
