Yenagoa—Bayelsa State Government in collaboration with United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) on Thursday flagged off the distribution of psychosocial support and recreational materials to schools across seven Local Government Areas affected by the 2022 devastating flood in Yenagoa.
The Commissioner for Women, Children Affairs, Empowerment and Social Development, Mrs Faith Opene, while handing over the materials to forty schools in Yenagoa LGA, expressed concern over the 2022 devastating flood which hit the state drastically.
She stated that the materials will help ameliorate affected children to forget the trauma caused by the flood.
Mrs Opene, who was represented by the Director, Human Resources, Ministry of Women Affairs, Mr. Tamaraubeni Andearede, urged teachers to make good use of the materials meant for the children.
She also appreciated UNICEF and the Child Protection Network for collaborating with the state government.
Commissioner for Education, Hon. Gentle Emelah, also urged heads of schools to utilise the materials for the children during break periods.
Emelah was represented by senior education officer, PTE department, Mrs. Ekpikpi Rosemary Akpos.
