Police begin investigation into murder of mechanic in Bayelsa

Yenagoa—The Bayelsa State Police Commissioner, CP Ben Nebolisa Okolo has charged operatives of the Nigerian Police Force to identify and arrest suspected cultists who murdered a mechanic at Arietalin Street in Yenagoa.

This is following a murder incident that happened on 25th July 2022, at about 1:00am on Tuesday morning after a clash between two rival cult groups in the capital city.

Okolo gave the charge in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa State Police Command, SP Asinim Butswat on Tuesday.

The police in the statement identified the victim as one Friday, a mechanic, whose surname is unknown.

The statement added that the corpse has already been deposited in the morgue.

“Policemen responded to a distress call of cult Clash at Arietalin Street, Yenagoa. On arrival, the policemen discovered a lifeless body of a mechanic one Friday surname unknown, who was shot by the cultists.

“The photograph of the scene was taken and the corpse was evacuated and deposited at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri,” the statement partly reads.

However, Butswat revealed that “Investigation is ongoing to identify and arrest the culprits.”
