Orji Kalu withdraws from presidential race

Abuja—Senate Chief Whip and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has announced his withdrawal from the presidential race in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

According to reports by Vanguard newspaper, Kalu in a statement titled ‘2023 Presidency: The Fairness I Know’ said so far as there are people from outside the southeast aspiring for the presidential seat, the idea of an Igbo presidency is unrealistic.

He recalled that the South West was able to produce two presidential candidates in the PDP and defunct All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) because there was an understanding to concede the Presidency to the region in 1999.

Senator Kalu described as “unjustifiable” and “inordinate,” the presidential aspirants of certain chieftains of the APC and the PDP, outside the Southeast geo-political zone.

However, the former Abia state governor is believed to be concentrating on a return to the senate in 2023.
