Federated Correspondents Chapel of Bayelsa NUJ suspends vote of no confidence passed in Diri’s spokesman

Yenagoa—The Federated Correspondent Chapel (FCC) of the Bayelsa chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists ( NUJ) has suspended the vote of no confidence passed in the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Douye Diri, Mr. Daniel Alabrah.

This is coming after a meeting held between members of the chapel and the chief press secretary on Wednesday.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the chairman, Tife Owolabi, and secretary, Pauline Onyibe of the FCC after an emergency meeting held on Thursday.

The chapel said the decision to suspend the vote of no confidence in Alabrah was reached when the governor’s aide ‘apologized for what he described as a breakdown in communication between himself and members of the chapel.’

The statement further said Alabrah promised to henceforth operate a more open avenue for communication between himself and the Federated Chapel.

The statement reads in full:

“Following an emergency meeting of the Federated Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Bayelsa State Council held on Thursday, April 14th, 2022, the members of the FCC resolved to suspend the Vote of No Confidence passed in the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Daniel Alabrah on February 24th, 2022.

“This is as a result of a meeting held between members of the FCC and the CPS on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at the Correspondents’ Chapel Secretariat where the CPS apologized for what he described as a breakdown in communication between himself and members of the chapel.

“He then pledged that going forward, he would operate an open-door communication channel with the FCC.

“He further promised to ensure that members of the FCC are given more access to government programmes and activities, hence the reliance on Press Releases would be reduced to the minimum.

“Believing in the sincerity of his statement, members of the FCC, therefore, resolved to suspend the Vote of No Confidence earlier passed.”

The Federated Correspondents Chapel of the NUJ passed a vote of no confidence in Daniel Alabrah on February, 24th 2022 following a disagreement between the majority of the chapel’s members and the Governor’s aide.
