Obua hails Reps for passing Federal College of Education, Elebele Bill, appreciates Diri, constituents

Abuja—The House of Representatives has passed the bill seeking to establish the Federal College of Education, Elebele-Ogbia, Bayelsa State, sponsored by the member representing Ogbia Federal Constituency Hon. Azibapu Fred Obua.

The bill passed the third reading at plenary on Thursday, following consideration of the report laid by the House Committee on Tertiary Education and Services.

The Bill establishing the institution aims to provide full-time courses, teaching, instructions, training and retraining in education, technology, applied sciences, commerce, management, social sciences, arts/humanities as well as provide for the appointment of a provost and other principal officers.

It will be recalled that the bill passed the first reading on the floor of the House of Representatives on the 8th of July, 2021.

The second reading took place on November 16th, 2021, while the public hearing was held on the 16th of December, 2021. The committee report was presented and laid on the 22nd of February, 2022.

Commenting on the development, Obua hailed members of the lower house for considering and passing the bill, while urging the Conference Committee of the National Assembly to do the needful.

The lawmaker who is the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values also implored President Muhammad Buhari to speedily assent to the bill upon harmonization and presentation for signing by the National Assembly.

The lawmaker who is seeking reelection in 2023, equally appreciated his constituents for their continuous support as well as Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State for his shared prosperous leadership.

He said he is positioned more than ever before, and more than any other aspirant, to deliver more democratic dividends to his constituents.

It will be recalled that the lawmaker sponsored the bill for the establishment of the Oloibiri Oil and Gas Museum and Research Centre, alongside the presentation of motions and public petitions.

He has distributed several empowerment materials and attracted and facilitated numerous infrastructural projects across Ogbia Federal Constituency.

Reacting to the passage of the Bill, Mr. Joe Emiebo, a member of the Ogbia Educators Forum, appreciated Obua for “his unprecedented result-oriented representation.”   

Emiebo opined that the electorates of  Ogbia Federal Constituency will do everything possible to return Obua to the House of Representatives to continually represent the Ogbia people.

“The lawmaker is exclusively blessed with legislative lobbying skills and calculative calmness, which he has deployed for the benefit of Ogbia People,” he added.
