Yenagoa—Chairman of De Wayles Group of companies, High Chief Emonena Victor Wayles Egukawhore (JP) has hailed the unity and bond amongst the members of Government Secondary School (G.S.S) Odi Alumni Association for years irrespective of status and background.
Chief Wayles made the remarks while speaking at the fundraising event held in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital to fund the equipping of G.S.S Odi school laboratory.
He appreciated Governor Douye Diri for the chance to be the special guest of honour and chief launcher of the event.
The business mogul applauded his former schoolmates for making out time from their busy schedules to give back to the institution that molded them.
He, however, urged those in the business and political sphere in the state to embrace the culture of unity and togetherness exhibited by the celebrating old boys.
Also speaking at the event, Governor Diri bemoaned the demise of some of his classmates and appreciated God for making the reunion possible and for the lives of those who are still living.
He expressed gratitude to the current Executive Council of the Alumni Association led by Prof. Ebimiowei Etebu, for their efforts and commitment to making the event possible.
Diri also thanked the past executives of the Alumni Association and all who have given back to the school in the form of financial and moral support over the years.
The high point of the event was the donation of money by various dignitaries, bodies and groups in attendance as well as the conferment of awards to recipients who had distinguished themselves in various human endeavours.
Those awarded include the lawmaker representing Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency 1, Dr. Tonye Isenah, a state lawmaker, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Moses Teibowei (rtd), Rear Admiral Godfrey Yanga, Brig. Gen Eric Angaye and Mr. Franklin Aganaba.
