Do not sell your votes, lawmaker urges electorate

Yenagoa—Ahead of the 2023 general election, the lawmaker representing Ekeremor constituency two in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Wilson Ayakpo Dauyegha has urged electorate not to sell their votes.

In a post on Facebook, the lawmaker stated that electoral laws will be ordinary laws if issues of impunity on the electoral processes are not dealt with.

He urged relevant authorities to bring perpetrators as well as political predators involved in electoral malpractices to book.

The post reads in part;

“It is true that electoral malpractices have truncated the will of the people and have subjected our people to unbearable hardship. We must use our heads.

“Ordinarily, under a free and credible electoral process; no vote-buying, no intimidation, absence of ballot box snatching and the falsification of poll results, many political predators will retire quietly. They know this, they know their performance is below par and they will want to short-change the process.

“My call is do not sell your votes, your vote is your civic responsibility and your power to effect the change you desire. The predators are aware of this that’s why they will solicit to buy your votes, but what is a peanut to your welfare? Your vote is your power.

“Bayelsa West I am ready to engineer a new set of legislation for our collective welfare, are you ready?

“Get your PVCs and let’s engineer a new beginning.”
