Ogbia —Some women from Otuasega community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have staged a protest on the Imiringi-road connecting Nembe and Ogbia town to Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, thereby obstructing movement on the road.
Mangrovepen.ng gathered that the women protested due to the alleged incessant attacks on their lives and farms by suspected herdsmen.
From inscriptions on some of the brandished placards, the women demanded the state government to intervene.
The women said farming is their means of livelihood, adding that the activities of the herdsmen if allowed to continue will cause untold hardship.
The Commissioner for Women, Children Affairs, Empowerment, and Social Development, Mrs. Faith Opene, on Monday, while intervening to arrest the situation said the issue cannot be left attended to.
She urged the protesting women to remain calm, assuring that their complaints will be swiftly looked into so that they can go about their normal activities.
Meanwhile the Governor, Senator Douye Diri is set to commission the newly completed Elebele bridge and Nembe Unity bridge today.
