Bayelsa rep, Obua encourages inmates at correctional facility, donates gifts, cash

Yenagoa—The Member representing Ogbia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon.
Azibapu Fred Obua, on Wednesday,
admonished inmates at correctional centres across the country not to despair over their present situation, but rather have faith in God for their freedom.

Obua, who is the deputy chairman of the House Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values, gave the admonition when he paid an unscheduled visit to the Nigerian Correctional Service, Medium Security Custodial Centre at Okaka in Yenagoa, with Christmas and new year gifts.

While addressing the inmates, the lawmaker said he was with them to celebrate the new year, encouraging them not to give up on life but rather use their current situation as a launchpad to greatness.

The Life Patron/Chairman of the Obua Caring Heart Foundation also urged the inmates to pray to God regularly and turn a new leaf to impact their environment positively when they are eventually released.

Describing his visit as a way of giving them a sense of belonging, Obua charged the inmates to be hopeful and to see the correctional facility as a sort of school to learn more.

In his remarks, the State Comptroller of Nigeria Correctional Service, Bayelsa State Command, Mr Seth Edoghotu thanked the lawmaker for the visit, describing it as truly encouraging.

According to Edoghotu, the set of indigenous and general inmates Obua addressed were repentant and could contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of Ogbia Local Government Area and Bayelsa State, if and when released.

The lawmaker donated bags of rice, beans, garri, cartons of noodles, a range of toiletries as well as cash gifts to the inmates.

The Ogbia federal lawmaker was accompanied on the visit by key staff of the Obua Caring Heart Foundation and admirers.
