YENAGOA—The Speaker, Bayelsa Youth Parliament, Rt. Hon. Timila Austin Ayekite, has expressed excitement after bagging the West African Youth leadership Award.
Comr. Austin in a chat with mangrovepen.ng today, said the award was unexpected.
He stated he is very elated to be conferred with the award given his humble background as a young man from the creeks of Brass.
According to him: “I feel very elated and excited to be found worthy to receive such an award.
“As a young person and activist who is from Bayelsa State, Niger Delta region, precisely from Brass, I was not expecting it but as God would have it, I was honoured with the West African Youth leadership Award.
“I feel so excited and give glory to God for the favour and honour upon me.”
Austin who doubles as the secretary-general of the Bayelsa state comrade family advised youths to remain peaceful, focused and committed while going about their daily activities.
“My advice to youths is for them to remain focused and dedicated to whatever they are doing.
“And let’s give peace a chance because as they say: Peace is priceless and terror is senseless,” he said.
Austin had, on Monday, visited the commissioner for Ijaw national affairs, Hon. Erasmus Patrick in his office in Yenagoa, the state capital.
The youth leader, who just returned from Abuja, attended the just-concluded Young Africa Leaders Conference where he was to have been conferred an award of recognition for “Commitment to Youth and Community Development in Africa.”
According to a statement obtained by Mangrovepen.ng, the commissioner congratulated Timila for the award conferred on him by the international body.
He also urged the speaker to continue in his quest for human development.
