Abandoned Hospital: Bayelsa Govt assures community of intervention

Ogbia—The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Pabara Newton Igwele, has assured the people of Emakalakala community in Ogbia Council Area of the state government’s intervention during his visit to an abandoned general hospital in the community.

While fielding questions from newsmen during his visit, Dr. Igwele stated that his visit was necessitated by myriad of publications he saw on the social media narrating the dilapidated condition of the hospital.

“Over the month I saw a post on the social media where they made a video and photos of this facility which was built by the former governor of old Rivers State, Late Chief Senator Melford Okilo.

“It used to be a functional hospital, but we don’t have it on record now. When I saw the post I wept. And I said let me come and see things for myself and the state of the hospital.

“I have seen how deplorable the facility is. This used to be a facility where lives were saved and to see the facility overtaken by nature is quite pitiable,” he stated.

The commissioner who promised to draw the attention of Governor Douye Diri to the condition of the hospital also assured residents of the community of government’s attention.

“His Excellency Senator Douye Diri will be very interested in this. He has over time mentioned that he wants to immortalize Okilo in his administration and that the legacies of Okilo must be upheld.

“I have taken videos and pictures and I will present them to the governor. I know he is going to do something in the shortest possible time and I also believe it will be included in our budget by the special grace of God.

“So be rest assured that the government’s attention will be dragged to this community,” he added.
