Bayelsa can be developed like South Korea, says Ambassador

Yenagoa—Kim Young-Chae, South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, has on Thursday stated that Bayelsa has the capability to be as developed as South Korea.

He made this know in Government House, Yenagoa, when he visited the Governor, Senator Douye Diri as a follow up to their recent meeting in Abuja.

The meeting was centered on exploring possible areas the Bayelsa state government and Republic of South Korea can establish partnership.

According to the Ambassador, Bayelsa and South Korea share similarities, which will make the partnership beneficial to both entities.

While expressing readiness in making the partnership a reality, he identified agriculture, construction and manufacturing as areas both parties can partner.

Commending Governor Diri for the strides he has made in Bayelsa, Ambassador Kim Young-Chae stressed that Bayelsa can grow like South Korea, who exploited and explored its potentials.

In his remarks, Governor Douye Diri expressed the willingness of Bayelsa state to partner with South Korea to explore its maritime potentials.

“We also have the Agge deep seaport project. That is one area we like to partner with you.

“We believe that working with South Korea, we would make progress and deepen our friendship.”

Governor Diri, who noted that the state is peaceful and open for business, also stated that he is optimistic the partnership will move Bayelsa from poverty to riches.

“Bayelsa is peaceful, safe and open for business. Having listened to you, we are sure that we are on the right track.
By partnering with you, Bayelsa can go far. We can move away from poverty to riches like South Korea with this partnership.

“You have mentioned areas of partnership, especially in agriculture, and we are very ready.”

The governor pointed out that as an agrarian state, Bayelsa is interested in exploring its agricultural potentials in partnership with the Republic of South Korea.
