Yenagoa—The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has urged the Executive Governor of Bayelsa state, His Excellency Senator Douye Diri to defect to the party, Punch Newspaper reports.
Stakeholders of the APC in Ekeremor Local Government Area made the statement during a meeting in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, on Friday.
They urged the governor to take a cue from some of his counterparts, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling APC.
Giving reasons for Senator Diri to defect to the APC, Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi, a former speaker and deputy governor of Bayelsa State, who was the APC’s candidate in the December 5, 2020, Bayelsa West senatorial by-election said, it is time for the governor and other defectors to return back to the APC, pointing out that the PDP is a sinking ship.
According to him, “I am calling on the governor of this state and other people that have mistakenly crossed over recently to PDP to retrace their steps and come back (to APC) now before it is too late. This is the time.
“Governor Diri is not doing badly but if he comes over to the APC, I think he will do better. He should stop welcoming people to the PDP that is a sinking boat.
“PDP is a sinking boat and nobody should enter a sinking boat no matter the temptation because you will sink along with them.”
The stakeholders declared that Sylva remains the leader of APC in Bayelsa and also passed a vote of confidence on President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva and Wilson Dauyegha, Deputy Minority Leader of the state House of Assembly representing Ekeremor Constituency II.
Stakeholders present at the meeting include: the Deputy Minority Leader of the state assembly representing Ekeremor Constituency II, Wilson Dauyegha, a former Deputy Governor and senatorial candidate, Peremobowei Ebebi, Ekeremor local government APC chairman, Eniekenemi Mitin, Alex Ekiotenne, Zee Debekeme, among others.
