Yenagoa—Mrs. Faith Opene, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Empowerment and Social Development, Bayelsa state, has pledged to eradicate human trafficking in the state.
She made the pledge when officials of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), paid her a courtesy visit in her office in Yenagoa on Thursday.
Her words: “I assure you of our support, partnership and commitment to kick out human trafficking in Bayelsa State.
“It is my appeal that NAPTIP should work concertedly with the Children Development and Women Affairs Department in the ministry in achieving this.”
She also stated that she is “ready to do anything within my power to see that Bayelsa women and children are safe from human trafficking.”
While responding, the Bayelsa State Commander for NAPTIP, Mrs. Abieywa Ikidero, thanked the Commissioner for her hospitality.
She explained that NAPTIP is committed to the prevention and prosecution of human trafficking cases as well as putting policies in place to stop human trafficking.
