Commander, NNS SOROH, Commodore Omobamidele Akinbami, who disclosed this on Tuesday while handing over the suspected militants to the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), said the suspect was caught in possession of illegal HK General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and a significant quantity of ammunition.
He said the operation, conducted on June 27, 2025, was targeted at the militants’ camps, as they were disturbing the peace of the law-abiding citizens.
He stated that the operation was the result of credible intelligence and sustained surveillance activities on the said location and its occupants, believed to be involved in illegal activities inimical to national security.
He said, “The operation, executed with precision and professionalism, led to the arrest of one militant, identified as Daniel Damigo, and the recovery of one HK GPMG and a significant quantity of ammunition.
“The swift and decisive action of the Nigerian Navy personnel ensured minimal disruption to the surrounding community and avoided any collateral damage.
“The success of this operation was made possible through effective collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and Labrador Security Services, whose support and field coordination were instrumental in the safe and successful mission.
“The suspect is currently undergoing preliminary interrogation, while the weapon and ammunition discovered from him will be subjected to forensic analysis to establish linkages with past criminal incidents.’’
The Daily Trust reports that Commodore Akinbami also stated that his personnel arrested two suspected cultists in possession of a locally made pistol and some rounds of ammunition last week in Yenagoa, the state capital.
He said they were handed over to the police anti-cultism task group for further investigation and prosecution.
