The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Daniel Igali, has expressed his support for the state’s contingent ahead of the Niger Delta Sports Festival.
Organised by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the festival is taking place from April 1-9, 2025, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The Bayelsa sports commissioner commended the NDDC for organizing the event, acknowledging its uniqueness.
“Unlike other sports festivals where some states bring 900 athletes and others 300, this festival ensures fair competition by allowing equal contingent sizes,” he noted.
He conveyed Governor Douye Diri’s blessings to the athletes, urging them to compete with integrity.
According to Igali, “This is a great opportunity for exposure, and we hope to use it to prepare for the National Sports Festival in Ogun next month.”
While emphasizing development over medals, he assured that Bayelsa’s athletes are in Uyo to compete strongly.
“We aim to uphold our state’s sporting reputation and give a good account of ourselves,” he said.
Igali wished the contingent success and urged them to be proud ambassadors of Bayelsa and the Ijaw Nation.
