FUO student drowns in Yenagoa creek over N300 bet

A 200-level Chemical Engineering student of the Federal University, Otuoke, has reportedly drowned at the Ekoli Creek in Yenagoa over a N300 bet.

According to the Punch metro, the incident occurred on Sunday morning, but the corpse is yet to be recovered, just as the name of the deceased remained unknown.

Sources who were privy to the development but did not want their names mentioned told newsmen that the victim placed a bet with friends that he could swim across the river, however, while swimming, he went under the water and never came out.

A source who is a student of the university said , “Yesterday morning, a 200-level Chemical Engineering student made a bet with his coursemates to swim across the river.

“They all raised N300 each for the stake. As he was swimming, he dipped and he has not been seen after that. He is still missing up till now.”

Meanwhile attempts at reaching the Public Relations Officer of the university, Ms Mercy Ekott, failed as she did not pick up calls to her mobile number.

However, when reached for comments, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Musa Mohammed, said he had yet to be briefed on the incident.

Mohammed could not also give the name of the deceased student.

Mohammed said, “I have no information on the incident” and promised to reach our correspondent the moment he had any update.
