The President of the Okpoama Kingdom Youth Movement, Engr. Seiyefa Felix Ben-Basuo, has warned against an alleged “attempt to divert the Nembe-Brass road from its initial plan.”
The youth leader in a press statement made available to Mangrovepen.ng on Tuesday alleged that there are persons who are hellbent on urging the government to adopt a proposed new plan for the road which connects several communities in the Brass Island including Fantuo, Odioma, Diema, Okpoama, Ewoama, and Twon Brass.
According to him, if adopted, the proposed new alignment would cut off some communities like Odioma, Diema, and Okpoama.
Ben-Basuo, who is also a certified engineer, opined that the said new proposed plan would cost twice as much as the original one.
He therefore advised against the rumoured idea describing it as an evil plot to serve the interest of few persons.
He warned that Okpoama youths under his leadership “will resist any attempts to divert the road, which would only serve the selfish interests of one community at the expense of others.”
He however expressed gratitude to Governor Douye Diri for making the road a reality.
Our reporter was unable to hear from the commissioner for Works whose phone number was switched off as at press time.
The Nembe-Brass road is a 115 billion landmark project initiated by the Douye Diri-led Bayelsa State government in 2021.
The road which will connect Brass Island to the rest of the state will entail a 21km first phase with 10 bridges.
So far, the first phase of the road is ongoing.
